Structured doctoral programme
The structured PhD programme at the Max Weber Institute for Sociology provides a comprehensive
framework for academic support and formalised mentoring of PhD students.
It ensures early involvement in collaborative research processes,
broad training in theory and methodology, and the development of a comprehensive portfolio
of key academic skills for future academic careers.
PhD colloquium
For several years now, the Max Weber Institute of Sociology has run a doctoral colloquium. Currently, around 20 doctoral candidates are taking part in the doctoral colloquium. In recent years (2018–24), nineteen doctoral theses have been completed.
The doctoral colloquium not only offers doctoral candidates the opportunity to discuss their research projects, but also serves as a forum for academic exchange between the chairs. All members of the institute are invited to present their own research within the framework of the colloquium. In addition, lectures by external researchers are occasionally held as part of the colloquium.
The guidelines for the doctoral colloquium can be found in the MWI Download Centre.
