The Max-Weber-Institute of Sociology at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at Heidelberg University invites applications for a

 

Full Professorship (W3) in “Sociology, specializing in Macrosociology” (f/m/d)

 

 

starting 1 April 2027.

 

 

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the further development of empirical-comparative macrosociology at the Max Weber Institute of Sociology. The candidate should have a strong profile in empirical-comparative research on societies. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in Sociology within the Faculty, particularly in the field of sociological institutional analysis. Research and teaching collaborations with related disciplines within the Faculty and across the University are welcome. Active participation in academic self-governance is required.

 

Requirements:

The appointment requires a university degree, a qualified doctorate, successful teaching experience, and (in accordance with Article 47, paragraph 2 of the Higher Education Law of the state of Baden-Württemberg) a Habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship or equivalent qualifications. We look for candidates with international reputation and connections, as evinced by highly visible publications and proven success in the acquisition of third-party funding in general sociology.
